Boot, Erik (the Netherlands)

Erik Boot is a physician specialized in intellectual disability medicine at ‘s Heeren Loo. He obtained his MD at the University of Amsterdam in 1999, completed his medical specialty training at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 2004, and completed his PhD thesis on adults with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and neurotransmitter systems at the University of Amsterdam in 2010. From 2014 to 2016, Dr. Boot trained as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Canada. This was a clinical and research fellowship program at The Dalglish Family 22q Clinic; an interdisciplinary clinic devoted to adults with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and their families. During his fellowship, he received the McLaughlin early career investigator award, the Max Alexandroff award, the psychiatrics consultants fellowship travel award, and the fellows research award that he won two consecutive years. Dr. Boot has authored and co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Erik Boot is a member of the scientific advisory committee of the national 22q11.2 family network (Stichting 22Q11), and a member of the clinical practice guideline advisory steering committee (SRO) of the Dutch society of physicians for people with intellectual disability (NVAVG).
